Mayor Ajitha Jayarajan said huge quantities of waste generated from hotels and apartments were a major issue.
Former Mayor Rajn Pallan said awareness programmes were held during the last UDF rule and it reduced the tendency to throw waste at public places.
In view of the rise in number of contagious diseases, the Thrissur corporation should take immediate action for effective waste management, the Opposition demanded.
