Government yet to decide on giving compensation to Mariam Rasheeda in ISRO espionage case

The government has decided not to take disciplinary action against the police officials who investigated the ISRO espionage case, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

Mr. Chandy told the Assembly on Friday that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had cited certain lapses in the investigation and recommended suitable action. The CBI had named Sibi Mathews, K.K. Joshua, and S. Vijayan in its report.

No decision had been made to give compensation to Mariam Rasheeda and her mother who were imprisoned in connection with the case.

As many as 13,060 new posts had been created since the government assumed office. The Public Service Commission gave employment advice to 611 differently abled persons between May 1, 2011, and October 31, 2012.

During the past two years, the government had spent Rs.30,34,015 for food and accommodation of Central government Ministers who visited the State.

Minister for Panchayats and Social Welfare M.K. Muneer said preliminary steps had been taken to give pension to Kudumbasree workers who had completed 60 years of age. A contributory pension scheme had been envisaged for the workers.

Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty said 1,179 money chain cases were pending in the State. Since the UDF government came to power, 775 cases had been registered and 213 persons arrested in such cases.

Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali said the refuse treatment plant at Chalai here for processing 35 tonnes waste a day would become functional soon.

It had been proposed to set up a plant of 200-tonne capacity at Kureepuzha in Kollam and 150-tonne capacity in Thrissur. A study by the CWRDM had found that 80 per cent of the wells were contaminated. Land crunch was the main impediment in setting up sewage treatment plants, he said. Excise Minister K. Babu said 40 applications for bar licences were being considered by the government. As many as 728 bars were functioning in the State. The licence of 716 bars had been renewed.
