Music maestro Ilaiyaraja has been selected for Kerala Tourism’s Nishagandhi Puraskaram 2016 for his artistic excellence and contribution to the Indian film music industry.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, Minister for Tourism A.P. Anil Kumar said the award will be presented to the 72-year-old maestro at the inaugural ceremony of the Nishagandhi annual dance and music festival commencing here on January 20.

The award carries a purse of Rs.1, 50,000, citation and a statuette.

A jury comprising Vice-Chancellor of the Malayalam University and former Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar selected the winner of the Nishagandhi Puraskaram.
