New-born baby girl found abandoned

A new-born baby girl who was found in an abandoned state near Muslim Jama’ath mosque in Kuttitheruvu in Kayamkulam in the district on Monday morning was admitted to the Women and Children Hospital (WCH), Alappuzha.

The believers who came for morning prayers at the mosque heard cries of a baby and after a search found the baby wrapped in a saffron lungi nearby. The police who were alerted by the local people arrived and shifted the baby to the Kayamkulam taluk hospital. Later, they handed over the baby to the 108 Ambulance service staff.

The ambulance staff produced the baby before the District Child Welfare Committee (DCWC).

DCWC member, M.K.Abdul Samad said that the Committee directed the baby to be admitted to the WCH for expert treatment and care. It will take about three days for the baby to get completely well, WCH superintendent, R.Radhamani and Anupama, the doctor who is treating the baby at the hospital said.

The Committee will take over the custody of the baby as and when it gets well.
