Kannur University Vice Chancellor M.K. Abdul Khader, who assumed additional charge of the Vice Chancellor at Calicut University on Wednesday, began undoing the unpopular measures introduced by his predecessor M. Abdul Salam on the Tenhipalam campus.
Dr. Khader, aka Khader Mangad, abolished the campus siren introduced by Dr. Salam soon after he took charge on Wednesday. “It will not sound any more. We don’t need such a cacophonous sound to tell us the time,” Dr. Khader told the media.
Dr. Khader held lengthy discussions with statutory officers, heads of teaching and non-teaching departments, leaders of employee unions, teacher unions, and student unions on Wednesday.
“A patient listening is vital. We can deal with most issues positively if we give a patient listening to the aggrieved,” said Dr. Khader.
Dr. Khader said that he would go ahead by taking the employees, teachers, and students into confidence. He said that his predecessor had done a lot of good for the university. “Vice Chancellorship is a continuous process. I’m not here to undo what my predecessor did. I will work for the betterment of the institution by focusing on students,” he said. Dr. Khader will spend two days a week on Tenhipalam campus and three days at Kannur. He will hold a meeting of the Syndicate on August 24.
“Getting an ‘A’ grade in the upcoming NAAC accreditation is our immediate goal,” he said, requesting the cooperation of the students, teachers and the employees.
The VC said he would constitute yet another Syndicate subcommittee to find a solution to the vexing hostel issue on the campus. He said that a decision on the police presence on the campus would be taken only after discussing with other stakeholders.
