Nawas murder case: life term for 10

The court on Friday sentenced 10 persons to life imprisonment in the Perinjanam Nawas murder case.

Irinjalakuda Additional Sessions Judge P. Ragini sentenced the 10 convicts to life term and a fine of Rs.1 lakh.  

Those sentenced included Cheruvalkkaran Rinto, Arakkal Salesh, Chittiyath Bidhun, Pookol Jikson, Nadakkal Udhayakumar, Chulliparambil Habeeb, former Perinjanam memorial branch committee secretary of the CPI(M) Kizhakkedath Sanesh, former Perinjanam local committee secretary of the CPI(M) Nelliparambil Ramdas, DYFI leader Puthiyaveetil Rafeeq, and Subair.

Many CPI(M) leaders and workers were present on the court premises.

Nawas, son of Thaliyappadathu Mohammadali, was hacked to death at Perinjanam on March 2, 2014.

According to the police, the gang killed Nawas by mistake as they reached the place to murder another person. It was suspected that the gang planned to kill BJP Perinjanam regional president Kalladan Gireesh, an accused in the murder of DYFI leader Biju. Two other persons, Subramanian and Ramesh Kumar, who were along with Nawas were seriously injured in the attack.
