Cadets participating in the novices cross-country championship for Autumn Term at the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala in Kannur on Sunday

The inter-squadron declamation and novices cross-country championship for Naval cadets was held at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) on Saturday and Sunday.

A press release by the INA here on Sunday said that teams comprising cadets from all six squadrons of the academy participated in the events. In the declamation championship, public-speaking skills in English of the participating cadets were on display. The winner’s trophy for the championship for the autumn term this year was won by the Braveheart Squadron of the INA. Rear Admiral K.S. Venugopal, Principal, INA presented the trophy and individual prizes to the winners.

The cross-country championship for first-term cadets was held on Sunday. It was flagged off by Rear Admiral M.D. Suresh, Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor of the INA. As many as 299 cadets from the six squadrons of the academy participated in the event, in which the cadets ran a course of 8 km across varying terrains of Ezhimala. Among the participants were 25 female cadets for whom the route was a 6-km stretch, the release said.

Winners

The Daredevil Squadron emerged winners in the championship, while cadet Hitharth P.G. of the Cheetah Squadron secured the first position, clocking 34 minutes and 24 seconds. Cadet Shama Goel of the Fighter Squadron stood first among female cadets with a timing of 36 minutes and 54 seconds. Rear Admiral Suresh presented the trophies and individual prizes to the winners.
