86 sportspersons get appointment orders

The government finally kept its word and gave appointment orders to 68 sportspersons who won individual medals for the State in the 2015 National Games held in Kerala.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan distributed the posting orders to sportspersons at a function at Durbar Hall here on Friday. Sportspersons from 16 disciplines were appointed in 28 different government departments.

He said apart from appointment to individual medal winners of National Games, the government had initiated steps to find placement for 83 sportspersons who were members of teams that won silver and bronze medals in the National Games. He said through this appointments, the government had recognised the efforts of the sportspersons.

Mr. Vijayan said that government also had initiated steps to start sports quota recruitment to government service which had been stopped for the past five years. The State had also taken the noble decision to earmark 1% of the total vacancies for sportspersons in PSC appointments.

He said the government had taken steps to introduce insurance to sportspersons, improve infrastructure, and introduce a fitness programme in schools to develop sports.
