Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a change of guard in the State by electing NDA candidates in the forthcoming elections to the Assembly.
Addressing a rally of NDA at Edathua in Kuttanad on Sunday, he urged voters to get rid of ‘the corrupt rule of the LDF and UDF.’
Coming down heavily on Congress-led UPA government, he said the former government was steeped in corruption on coal, 2G, 3G and so on. In Kerala, the solar scam had made headlines.
The LDF and UDF were engaged in a ‘jugalbandi of corruption’. Both the fronts were in an understanding to gloss over the other’s foul play so that the fruits of governance could be enjoyed alternatively. Every five years, a new government took charge but the fate of Keralites have not changed. It was said by a Congress leader earlier that if one rupee is sent to Kerala, only 15 paise reaches the State. The corrupt elements in the State were responsible for the lapse. The situation would change only if NDA government assumed power in the State. Development was the mantra of the NDA, he said.
Scarcity of water
Noting that places like Kuttanad, which were surrounded by water bodies, were facing scarcity of drinking water, he called upon people to throw out those regimes which were not able to provide drinking water even after many decades of governance. The two fronts were dividing the people of the State in terms of caste and creed, he said. The Prime Minister said though the State had not elected any NDA candidate so far, he was with the people of Kerala. He had come immediately to offer help to the victims of Puttingal temple fire accident which claimed over 100 lives recently. In contrast, the UPA government had failed to give due attention when the tragedy struck at Sabarimala, killing over 100 people a few years ago.
When he visited Saudi Arabia, UAE and other Gulf countries recently, he had gone to the companies where Keralites worked, in a bid to assess the living conditions there and offer help. The NDA government at the Centre had weeded out corrupt practices. When the LPG subsidy was directly transferred to bank accounts of consumers, a whopping Rs.21,000 crores could be saved, as fake consumer list got vanished.
SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellapally Natesan, BJP leaders P.S. Sreedharan Pillai and Velliamkulam Parameswaran, NDA leaders Thushar Vellapally, P.C. Thomas, Rajan Babu, Subhash Vasu and others were present.
