The taluk hospital at Cherthala in Alappuzha district has won the accreditation of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH), Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar said on Saturday. In a press release, Mr. Sivakumar said the Cherthala hospital had become the first taluk-level government hospital in the country to win the accreditation. A majority of the 151 hospitals that now had the NABH accreditation belonged to the private sector.
Nine hospitals in the State now had the accreditation. Of these, three were government hospitals. The Government General Hospital in Ernakulam had won the accreditation last year and the Government Hospital for Women and Children at Thycaud in Thiruvananthapuram had received it earlier this year. “This accreditation will inspire Kerala’s public health sector to further improve its services to the people,” Mr. Sivakumar said, congratulating the officials, doctors, paramedical staff, and members of the hospital management committee at Cherthala for making the achievement possible.
