The remand period of 18 of the accused in the Paul Muthoot George murder case was extended by the Ramankary Judicial First Class Magistrate Subitha Chirakkal here on Friday.

The remand of 18 of the accused, who have been lodged in the Viyyur Central Jail, was extended till January 14. From the total of 25 accused in the case, five, including known offenders Om Prakash and Rajesh Puthenpalam, were allowed bail by the Alappuzha Sessions Court earlier while two of the accused are still at large.

Meanwhile, the charge sheet in the case, which was re-submitted to the Ramankary Court on December 24, is expected to be accepted on Saturday or Monday. Once the charge-sheet is accepted, the case will be committed to the Alappuzha Sessions Court as per normal procedure, police officials said.

The Ramankary court had on December 8 returned the charge-sheet, originally submitted on November 19, calling for further investigations and correction of certain technical anomalies and discrepancies in the investigation. However, the charge-sheet was re-submitted after the High Court issued a stay on the order of the lower court.
