Muthoot case: Police re-enact murder at crime scene

October 08, 2009 08:19 pm | Updated 08:27 pm IST - ALAPPUZHA

The Special Investigation Team probing the Paul Muthoot George murder case created a re-enactment of the murder at the crime scene here in the early hours of Thursday.

The re-enactment was created using the same number of persons and vehicles that were suspected to be present and involved in the murder, which took place near the Jyothi Junction of Ponga on the Alappuzha-Changanassery Road on August 22.

Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) A.V. George, who is in-charge of the SIT, told The Hindu that the crime re-enactment was done so as to verify the details the police had collected during the course of the investigation. The time taken by the Tempo Traveller van, carrying the hired gang from Changanassery, to follow the Ford Endeavour carrying Paul; the time taken by the gang to enter into an altercation with Paul and stab him; whether the persons standing near

the Endeavour could be identified in the light offered by other vehicles etc., were among the aspects that were verified.

The re-enactment was so timed as to be at the same time of the crime, which is said to have taken place around 12.15 a.m. on August 22. Most of the vehicles, except the Ford Endeavour, were also similar, including the Tempo Traveller vans.

Mr. George also said that the SIT had questioned on Wednesday the accused in the case, who are presently in remand at the Viyyur Central Jail, Thrissur. This was after the SIY got the permission to conduct the questioning in the jail from the Ramankary Judicial First Class

Magistrate on Monday. Collection of their blood samples was also on.

The case investigation was progressing quite fast and once the polygraph and narco-analysis tests on Om Prakash and Rajesh, the 15{+t}{+h} and 16th accused respectively in the case, were over, procedures to prepare the charge sheet would begin.
