A woman and her lover were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Additional District and Sessions Court here on Thursday on the charge of murdering her husband.
Susheela and Selvaraj were convicted by judge Shirley Dutt for murdering Susheela’s husband Suresh under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information).
According to the prosecution, Susheela and Selvaraj conspired to murder Suresh so that they could continue their affair. Suresh was murdered when he, along with his family, was visiting Susheela’s sister Mani.
From Mani’s home, Selvaraj took Suresh to a rubber plantation at Thekketheri on March 17, 2013 where he strangled him to death using a stereo wire. The body was buried there. Later, Susheela filed a man-missing complaint at the Kunnicode police station. When relatives found his disappearance suspicious and alerted the police, Selvaraj exhumed the partly decomposed body from the plantation and dumped it in a canal. The body was found by the local people, ultimately leading to the arrest of Selvaraj and Susheela. Selvaraj had attempted suicide.
