Amid moves by KPCC to consider K. Muraleedharan’s plea to rejoin Congress, the expelled leader on Wednesday said he would soon meet Congress leadership in New Delhi and seek re-entry into the party.
“I will be reaching New Delhi in a couple of days to meet Mohsina Kidwai, in-charge of party affairs in Kerala, and other Congress leaders to seek re-entry into Congress,” Muraleedharan told reporters.
A communication to this effect had already been sent to KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala and opposition leader Oommen Chandy, whose final approval would be sought before leaving for New Delhi, Muaraleedharan, son of senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran said.
Muraleedharan’s statement comes in the wake of remarks by Chennithala after a KPCC executive committee meet on Tuesday in Thiruvananthapuram that the party was ready to hold talks with the expelled leader.
While some senior Congress leaders in the State support induction of Muraleedharan into the party, other section of the party have opposed it. Karunakaran had recently written letter to KPCC asking to consider his son’s induction into the party.
Muraleedharan, a former KPCC President, had revolted against the party leadership and floated Democratic Indira Congress (DIC) after his expulsion from the party in 2005.
Later, DIC merged with the Sharad Paward-led Nationalist Congress Party and Muraleedharan became its state unit president. However, he relinquished the post few months back.
