The project to decorate the walls of Moorthitta Maha Ganapati Temple attached to Travancore Devaswom Board at Aranmula with mural paintings is nearing completion.
The novel mural art project has been undertaken by the State-run Vasthu Vidya Gurukulam attached to Cultural Department at Aranmula seven months ago as part of the temple renovation work.
A team of five artistes led by the Gurukulam mural artist, Suresh Muthukulam, has almost completed the painting work on the outer walls of the temple, making it the first of its kind, perhaps, in the whole State.
According to Suresh Muthukulam, the themes for the paintings have been selected from the Puranas. The main themes of the mural art work are ‘Ganapati pooja’, ‘Ganapati praathal’ (dinner), ‘Ganapati chamayom’, Ganapati kalyanom (marriage), ‘Siva-kudumbom’ with Baala Ganapati and Baala Murugan, Ganapati on a swing and Maha Ganapati,.
The West-facing temple has got a mural painting of a dancing Ganapati on its southern wall. The Gurukulam team has painted exquisite mural works on different postures of the deity on the temple walls, besides various important events connected to Ganapati as described in the Puranas.
The Temple Renovation Committee has decided to conduct the dedication ceremony of the renovated Maha Ganapati Temple on August 28. Purification rituals, Ashtabandhakalasom and a Maha Kumbhabhishekom
would also be performed as part of the dedication ceremony on August 25 and 26.
The ceremonial feeding of elephants, ‘Aanayoottu’, Ganesotsavom and Nadeevndanom would also be held as part of the Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations on September 1.
Mr Suresh Muthukulam said the finishing touches of the mural art work on the temple walls would be completed in the next one week.
