Rebels in the Mundur area committee of the CPI (M) who support former area committee secretary P.A. Gokuldas will attend the party rally at Mundur being addressed by party State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on October 5.

In a meeting of the Mundur area committee held on Friday, five of the nine rebels and five of the official group took part. The strife in the Mundur area committee could not be resolved in a general body meeting called by the party district committee on September 26. A number of party members had walked out of the meeting in protest against not reinstating P.A. Gokulads as area committee secretary.

CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had reported in the general body meeting the party State committee decision that Mr. Gokuldas would be included only in the local committee and the present Mundur area committee secretary P.K. Sudhakaran would continue.

Mr. Gokuladas did not walk out of the meeting and said that he would wait for the meeting called by the party State secretary at Mundur on October 5. The district committee of the party had demoted Mr. Gokuladas from the post of area committee secretary last week on charges of indiscipline. But the party leadership is understood to have assured the rebels that after getting the report of the Elamaram Karim committee appointed by the party to inquire into the problems in Mundur, steps will be taken to address the grievances of the rebels.
