The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam increased to 135.8 feet on Sunday.

A top official of the KSEB, who visited the Mullaperiyar dam today, said with the rise in the water level, more water will be released though the Periyar into the Idukki dam.

He said there was no need for any panic as the inflow would not affect any area.

Road Blockade

The Mullaperiyar Samara Samithy, which is leading a strike for the decommissioning of the century-old dam on Sunday organised a road blockade at Kauntharurvi Chappathu on the Kattappana-Kottayam route till 2.30 pm.

The stir was cancelled when a senior official of the revenue department assured the Samara Smithy leaders that their main demands including lighting in the areas and opening of the control room would be immediately taken up.
