People from different walks of life will join hands this afternoon to form a human chain from Mullapeiryar to backwaters of Kochi seeking resolution of the Mullaperiyar issue.

CPI (M) leader and former Speaker will hold one end of the chain here and Opposition Leader V. S. Achuthanandan will bring up the other end at Marine Drive in Kochi. The human chain is being organised by the Left Democratic Front demanding construction of a new dam at Mullaperiyar and reducting the water level in the existing dam.

CPI (M) leader Kodiyeri Balarkrishan and CPI (M) State Secretary Pinarai Vijayan, former Minister Benoy Viswam and other leaders of the LDF will join the chain at Vandiperiyar and Karinkulam Chappathu near here where members of the Assembly are offering fast.

The Congress will be organising hunger strikes at district centres with KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala leading the fast in Thiruvananthapuram. The Subject Committee of the State Assembly headed by Water Resources Minister P. J. Joseph is visiting the Mullaperiyar dam as part of further assessment of the condition of the dam by the Committee.
