MP seeks adequate funds for model village project

Former Union Minister K.C. Venugopal, MP, has urged the Union government to allot adequate funds for the implementation of Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana in the next budget.

He was addressing a meeting of panchayat presidents and officials from three panchayats in Alappuzha district, which were selected for implementing the programme, at the Kerala Institute of Local Administration here. The projects should be prioritised according to the needs of each panchayat, he said. The cooperation of the public was necessary for the success of the project, he said. Representatives from Thaikattussery, Kadakkarapally and Aryad panchayats attended the meeting.

A socio-economic survey will be conducted under the project in the initial phase. The comprehensive project will be implemented using Central and State sponsored funds, MLA-MP funds and panchayat plan funds.

The project aims at creating model villages. Development of village roads, quality improvement in health and education sector and creating employment opportunities are part of the project.
