Motor stir peaceful in Kochi

November 05, 2011 10:00 am | Updated 03:07 pm IST - Kochi

The dawn-to-dusk motor stir called by the State Motor Workers’ Coordination Committee has been peaceful in the district till afternoon.

While normal life has been affected with public transport staying off the road completely, no untoward incident has been reported. KSRTC operated a near normal service much to the relief of the people who could not afford the luxury to take off from work.

Autorickshaws mostly stayed off the road while taxis were also few and far between in the city. However, taxis at the Kochi International Airport operated as usual.

Though private vehicles could be seen on the roads, their number has been less than normal. Passengers reaching the railway stations were hit as they had to depend mainly on the KSRTC services. A dharna against fuel price hike was held outside North Railway station by Kerala Congress (anti-merger Group).

Many offices functioned with lower than normal attendance as employees found it hard to reach offices.
