Mother, three girl children found dead on railway track

Kozhikode: A 33-year old house wife and her three girl children were found dead on the railway track near Puthiyangadi in Kozhikode district on Sunday. Police identified the dead as Bhavana Rajesh, Aiswarya, 12, Nandini, 10, and Vismaya, 8. They were natives of Thirurangadi in Malappuram district.

The incident was reported to the Elathur police around 6 a.m. The bodies were found run over by the train. However, the police could not confirm whether it was an accident or suicide. The time of the incident and the train reportedly that knocked down the four too remained obscure.

It took several hours to confirm the identity of the dead as they were initially believed to be the natives of Kozhikode district. Later, their whereabouts were collected after circulating the accident details to all local police stations in Kerala and cross-checking check it with the missing cases. The latest missing case that was found matching with the Puthiyangadi incident was the one reported from Thirurangadi police station.

A police officer from Thirurangadi station said the four were reported missing from their rented quarters on Saturday. Their family members had informed the police about the missing case and search was on to locate them, he said. The police officer also said the reason behind the housewife’s leaving from home with her children was unknown.

After the inquest, the bodies were moved to the Kozhikode Medical College mortuary. Post-mortem examinations would be conducted soon after the remaining identification procedures by the close family members, the police said.
