Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Saturday that the Student Police Cadet (SPC) project would be extended to more schools across the State this year.
He was addressing around 600 cadets after taking salute at their ceremonial parade, organised as part of the valedictory of the seventh SPC Change Leaders’ Meet, a State-level summer camp, that came to a close on the Special Armed Police campus.
Emphasising the success story of the SPC project since its launch in 2010, Mr. Vijayan said the initiative was viewed by the common populace with great expectations.
“Around half-a-lakh cadets representing 574 schools in Kerala have undergone training under the programme,” he said.
He exhorted the participants to ensure that the skills and information they gained during the week-long programme are utilised for society’s betterment. “The lessons learnt here must remain a motivation for the students. They must strive for personal development as well as the development of society. Only then would the SPC project will be meaningful,” Mr. Vijayan said.
Dilshad Amin of Malappuram, who was adjudged the best cadet among boys, led the ceremonial parade. V. Athulya of Kozhikode, who came first among girls, was the second-in-command.
