The Special Additional District and Sessions Court (Marad cases) on Tuesday held in-camera examination of a woman in connection with the Kodiyathur “moral policing” case in which a mob lynched a youth in the district last year.
The deposition was done under Section 327 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
She deposed before Special Judge R. Narayana Pisharadi from morning.
Deposition put on hold
However, her deposition was put on hold after she swooned inside the court hall in the afternoon.
The case relates to assault by 15 persons on Shaheed Bava, 27, with iron rods and wooden planks after tying his hands and legs to an electric post at 11.30 p.m. on November 9 for allegedly having an affair with a married woman at Kodiyathur.
The victim had died of injuries at a private hospital in the city on November 13.
The court scheduled to examine the woman and her daughter on Tuesday. Both had earlier given statements under Section 164 (recording of confessions and statements) of the CrPC.
Now the court ordered that both the witnesses would be examined at a later stage after issuing fresh summons.
The Special Judge also decided to continue with the deposition of other witnesses on Wednesday. The trial in the case commenced on Monday with the uncle of the deceased, K.T.C. Mammed, deposing before the court.
He recognised four accused in the case. The examination of prosecution witnesses will continue till January 24.
14 out on bail
There are 15 accused in the case. Fourteen of them — Abdurahim, alias Cheriyappu, 52; Mohammed Salim, 19; Abdul Kareem, 42; Abdul Naser, alias Auto Naser, 28; Fayas Aboobacker, 25; Najid Hyder, 19; Irshad Kuyyil, 20; Rashid Abdurahim, 19; Hijas Rahman, alias Katta, 20; Muhammed Jamsheer, alias Paala Jamsheer, 22; Shahul Hameed, 26; Jaffer, alias Bichutta, 30; E. Ayoob, 22; and K. Murshid, 26, all hailing from Kodiyathur — are out on bail.
One of the accused, Fayis Abdurahim, 24, who is absconding, fled to Saudi Arabia after the incident.
