Moozhiyar Power House, the second largest hydel power station in the State has been selected for this year’s excellence award, instituted by Kerala State Electricity Board, for best performing power house in 2010-11.

Mr Muhammed Ali Rawther, KSEB Chief Engineer (Generation) who was the Deputy Chief Engineer at Moozhiyar from during the period, received the award from Electricity Minister, Arayadan Mohammed, the other day.

Mr Rawther was instrumental in organising the renovation work in a time-bound manner at the Moozhiyar power house, following an explosion occurred in one of the generators three years ago.

According to Mr Rawther, the team work of the staff at Moozhiyar with good support from the board authorities was what helped the time-bound completion of the repair work.

The award is for overall performance achieved in terms of performance of the power station, its safety aspects, beautification works, etc.

The power house is situated in the thick forests of Pathanamthitta district. Presently, all the five units at the power house are in an improved condition, delivering 280 mw of power.

The replacement of the damaged generator is scheduled to commission in December, 2011, enhancing the generation capacity of the power house by another 60 mw.
