Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan said here on Wednesday that Government would communicate its concern over circumstances that led to the failure of the Moolathara dam to Tamil Nadu.

Talking to the media after a Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said that a four-member panel had been deputed to study the reasons for the failure of the dam and suggest measures to prevent such incidents in future.

Cabinet Ministers had alleged earlier that excessive release of water by Tamil Nadu from the upstream Aliyar dam had caused the breach in the Moolathara dam. The failure of the dam, which functioned as a regulator for release of water for irrigation had caused a death and much damage to houses and other properties. The dams are part of the Parambikulam Aliyar system.
