Industries Minister A.C. Moideen has ordered urgent disaster management works in the coastal belt of the district, including construction of sea walls.

The Minister, who visited the areas hit by huge tidal waves and heavy winds, on Saturday, asked officials to distribute free ration and compensation to victims and coordinate relief works. MLAs E.T. Tyson, V.R. Sunil Kumar, K.U. Arunan and K.V. Abdul Khader accompanied him.

Protest

Meanwhile, people from the coastal areas disrupted traffic near Eriyad in protest against the alleged apathy of the Revenue Department. They demanded protection of their lives and property.

Meanwhile, one more relief camp was opened at A.M. I. U.P. School, Eriyad. Around 100 families were rehabilitated in Eriyad. Already, four camps have been opened at Vadanappilly. However, people are refusing to shift to the camps. Many people have shifted to the houses of their relatives. The sea continues to be rough in Kodungallur area. Waterlogging is severe in many areas.

Three more houses were destroyed at Vadanappilly. Around 80 houses were damaged as tidal waves lashed the coast. Vadanappilly, Ganeshamangalam, Badarpally, Thalikkulam, Arappa, and Pokkanchery are the most affected areas. Many trees and electric posts were uprooted. Power supply has been totally disrupted in Vadanappilly area. Severe waterlogging is reported from Chavakkad area too.

Meanwhile, four fishermen missing from Vadanappilly have reached Chettuva harbour.
