: Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat said here on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was known for giving a lot of promises and delivering nothing.
Addressing a Meet-the-Press programme here on Monday, Ms. Karat said Mr. Modi should visit Marathwada region of Maharashtra, where the people had voted in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), to see the distressing drought situation. He should visit the area to see the problems faced by the people instead of visiting Kerala to garner votes for the BJP. Mr. Modi had failed to deliver the promises he had given to the people of Maharashtra, she said.
To a question on Mr. Modi’s remark in Kasaragod on Sunday that the Congress and the Left are ‘dosthi’ in West Bengal and are engaged in ‘gusthi’ in Kerala, the CPI(M) leader said the ‘dosthi-gusthi’ game was the slogan of Mr. Modi. Mr. Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee are friends in New Delhi, though they were enemies in West Bengal, she said. The CPI(M) was considering the best way for the development of the common people, she said justifying the co-operation with the Congress in West Bengal. She also said that if the Left Democratic Front comes to power, a women welfare ministry will be set up to check violence against women.
