Kerala Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said that the State government would give full protection to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who is arriving in Kerala to attend a function at the Sivagiri Mutt near here on Wednesday.

Reacting to questions from reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said the State police had the duty to provide security to the Gujarat Chief Minister and that every effort would be made to ensure that Mr. Modi received full protection. Maintenance of law and order was the responsibility of the State and provision of full security cover to a visiting Chief Minister formed part of that responsibility, he pointed out.

The Gujarat Chief Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the golden jubilee of the Sree Narayana Dharma Meemamsa Parishad at the Mutt, which is the final resting place of social reformer-savant Sree Narayana Guru. Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has declared that he would stay away from the related function to mark the 125th anniversary of the Guru’s installation of a Siva idol at Aruvippuram near here in protest against the invitation extended to Mr. Modi.
