It was politics that dominated the function organised here on Sunday to mark the culmination of an era of communication — the telegram service. Ambalappuzha MLA G. Sudhakaran telegrammed a message to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy asking him to quit while Congress leader and former PSC member Devadutt G. Purakkad telegrammed a message to the Chief Minister requesting him to continue in the office.

IUML district general secretary A.M. Nazeer sent ‘best wishes’ to the Chief Minister and Ramzan greetings to IUML State president Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal. The function was organised by Health For All Foundation at BSNL Customer Care centre.

N.K. Aliyar, who had been serving the telegram office for nearly half a century, was honoured at the function.
