Minister for Welfare of the Scheduled Tribes P. K. Jayalakshmi has directed the Scheduled Tribes Development Department officials to keep middlemen at bay in the housing projects for tribesmen.
After a meeting of senior officials of the department, Ms. Jayalakshmi said all officials concerned had been directed to maintain transparency while purchasing land under the ‘Ashikkum Bhoomi Adivasikku Swantham’ project in the wake of media reports on rampant corruption in purchase of land.
The full responsibility of purchasing land will be handed over to the District Collector, Ms. Jayalakshmi said in a release. She directed to expedite measures to disburse land for landless tribesmen in a time-bound manner.
