Minister to open super specialty hospital in Idukki

Minister for Coir and Co-operation G. Sudhakaran will inaugurate the first super specialty hospital in the co-operative sector on Friday at Thankamany in Idukki district. The hospital will address the health needs of the people in the backward areas.

In the first of the project, the hospital, with an area of 9.500 sq.ft., has X-ray, ECG, lab, ICU, operation theatre, labour room, a pay ward and a 24-hour functioning emergency section. After the inauguration, more specialties like gynaecology, paediatrics and general medicine will be arranged at the hospital.

The office-bearers of the hospital said that arrangements have been made to give concession to all those who are included in the Complete Health Insurance Scheme implemented by the State government.

The hospital was built in three years by accepting shares of Rs.85 lakh and interest-free loan worth Rs.20 lakh. The president of the co-operative society C.V. Varghese will preside over the inaugural function. District Collector Ashok Kumar Singh will hand over the certificate to run the hospital to the authorities, said the organisers.
