Kerala Education and Culture Minister M.A. Baby on Tuesday offered to mediate to end the standoff between veteran Malayalam actor Thilakan and film outfits over his recent outburst against superstars if both sides agreed to come for a talk.
The Minister’s offer came in the backdrop of the claim of literateur Dr Sukumar Azheekode that superstar Mohanlal has called him over phone to convey his readiness to talk and settle the matter. Mr. Mohanlal, however, denied that he had made any such commitment in his talk with Dr. Azheekode.
“If both sides are willing to come round for talks, the Government is ready to mediate to resolve the issues”, Mr. Baby told reporters here.
Mr. Thilakan, facing the ire of cine artiste’s body ‘Amma’ after his remarks against superstars, said he was willing for a talk to resolve the tangle with certain conditions. The controversy rocking the Malayalam filmdom started a month back when Mr. Thilakan was dropped from a movie after he was booked for a role.
Mr. Thilakan alleged he was denied the role under pressure from a superstar and charged outfits like Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) were acting like “mafia groups”.
