Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran came out with a statement here on Friday that only one or two persons were involved in breaking the glass of his official car at Krishnapuram on Thursday night while the Kayalamkulam police arrested 18 persons and registered cases against 200 others over the incident.
The Minister said in an official release that only one or two persons, who had lost their senses, had attacked his car and others had intervened to check the attack.
Mr. Divakaran said when he reached Krishnapuram, traffic had come to a standstill and many people had gathered at the site of the accident involving a bike. He enquired about the accident and people had complained to him about the delay in the police reaching the spot and moving the victims to the hospital. He had immediately contacted higher police officials and they had arranged for the removal of the victims from the road.
He had taken rest at a nearby house as requested by the people and later continued his journey in the official car of the Speaker K. Radhakrishnan, who had been passing by. Reports that he had fled from the people in fear was incorrect.
