Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb has stressed the need for universities and the government to go for education reforms. He was speaking at a special convocation ceremony for conferring honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree on former ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan at Mahatma Gandhi University on Tuesday.

“The syndicates, academic councils and boards of studies of universities should be committed to high quality education for the good of our students,” the Minister said. Stressing the need for universities to take the lead in this endeavour, he said the State and the Central governments would be able to provide directions in this regard.

Government’s plan

“This year, the government is planning to take steps to project Kerala as the most preferred international destination for education in the country. An amount of Rs.1,074.62 crore has been earmarked in the State Budget for education. The total allocation to universities has been kept at a record high of Rs.723.53 crore,” he said.
