In order to ensure the payment of minimum wages, the government will introduce a system for paying wages for labourers through banks, Finance Minister K.M.Mani has said.
Presenting the Budget for 2012-13 in the Assembly on Monday, Mr. Mani said that wages of headload workers had been unified in Kollam, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts. This would be extended to other districts too.
A sum of Rs.50 lakh has been earmarked to construct new houses for plantation workers. Housing projects will be implemented at select places with the cooperation of NGOs and voluntary organisation for migrant labourers, for which Rs.50 lakh has been allocated. Single window system would be introduced in sub-registrar offices to provide information and better service to the public The Minister said that e-stamping will be implemented for registration of documents.
Integrated Public Distribution System would be introduced to ensure that the commodities being sold through the ration shops reached the real beneficiaries.
