Mercantile Marine Department team interrogates Prasobh

A team from the Mercantile Marine Department from Kochi questioned Prasobh Sugathan, second officer of the Singapore-flagged ship m.v. Prabhu Daya which allegedly hit a boat Don-I off the Cherthala coast on March 1 killing five fishermen, in Alappuzha on Sunday.

Ambalappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate V.Udayakumar on Saturday extended the police custody of Mr. Sugathan till 4 p.m. on March 26.

The Department also sought the permission of the court to question him.

Mr. Prasobh will be questioned in the presence of a special investigation team of the Kerala Police.

It is learnt that the Mercantile Marine Department team will submit a report to the Director-General of Shipping.

The court will also consider the bail application of seaman Mayur Veerendra Kumar and Captain of the ship Charles Gordon Pereira on Monday.
