May 12, 2011 09:03 pm | Updated 09:03 pm IST - PALAKKAD:

Many entrepreneurs and farmers attended a seminar on jackfruit food production and marketing organised by the Kanjirapuzha Farm Club at Irumakamchola, near Mannarkkad, on Thursday.

James P. Mathew, president of the club, said jackfruit, known for its nutritious organic food products, could soon conquer the taste buds of the people of the State and outside, as many participating entrepreneurs had shown a keen interest in taking up the production and marketing of 16 products developed by the club. The club would hand over the technology to the entrepreneurs.

Those from Kerala, Delhi, and States such as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu participated.

Mr. Mathew said that many West Asian countries, the U.S., Germany, and Australia had shown interest in making organic food products from jackfruit. So there was potential in starting a food-processing park to make value-added products from jackfruit in the government sector.
