The Kasaragod government medical college will start functioning from 2017-18 academic year, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said.
The college, coming up at Ukkinadka in Badiyadukka grama panchayat, has received administrative sanction for Rs.288 crore works, Sivakumar said, inaugurating the new building of the Madhur Primary Health Centre at Mayipadi near here on Thursday.
The work on the college will be speeded up from now, he said.
As many as 21 posts of new doctors have been filled up through the Public Service Commission and the remaining vacancies will be filled up soon, he said.
The State Health Department has entered into an understanding with the World Health Organisation to reduce the prevalence of lifestyle diseases by making use of the services of Primary Health centres, he said, adding Kerala has become the first State in the country to enter into such a tie-up.
