An all-party meeting convened by the Wayanad Press Club here on Friday urged the State government to start the functioning of the proposed government medical college at the General Hospital here on a temporary basis.
Though the State government had announced in its 2012 budget that it would set up a medical college in the district under the public sector to provide modern medical facilities to the public, including tribesmen, the project was yet to be launched owing to various legal issues related to a land identified for the purpose, the meeting said.
Hence the government should adopt temporary measures to start the functioning of the proposed medical college at the General Hospital here by utilising its minimum facilities, till the proposed medical college was set up, the meeting said.
‘Thwart KVASU move’
The government should open different medical branches such as oncology, cardiology, and general medicine at the proposed medical college. It demanded quick intervention of the government against the alleged move of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) authorities to relocate the infrastructure development projects planned at its headquarter at Pookode to other campuses of the university.
The meeting also decided to submit a memorandum in this regard to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar on February 9.
