May review support to UDF, says KC(Jacob)

Kerala Congress (J) chairman Johny Nellore says United Democratic Front will not succeed in polls in the present condition

The Kerala Congress (Jacob) [KC(Jacob)] has said that it will have to review its support to the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the coming elections if the “anti-farmer” clauses in the K. Kasturirangan and Gadgil reports on the Western Ghats are not withdrawn.

Kerala Congress (J) chairman Johny Nellore, while addressing a district convention of the party here on Monday, said the Congress had failed in its responsibilities as the leading party in the UDF. The group fight in the Congress had taken the sheen off the UDF, he said.

Inaugurating the convention, Minister for Civil Supplies Anoop Jacob said that though there were differences within the UDF, they would not affect the government. He said that ration shops across the State would be computerised within 18 months. Mr. Jacob said that there was no threat to the government.

Mr. Nellore said that the front would not succeed if it went to the polls in the present condition. “Why should people vote for a quarrelling group?”

He said that although a lot of development activities were carried out by the UDF government, it failed in letting the people know about the good work it did. “The Congress should take the lead to go to the people with the message of development.”

Mr. Nellore said that stringent action should be initiated against those officers responsible for giving “royal” treatment in jail to the accused in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case.

Party district president Mathew Sebastian presided. State vice-president Vakanad Radhakrishnan, Farming Corporation chairman C. Mohan Pillai, district secretary George Michael, K.U. Thomas, Alungal Bharatan, P.K. Mathukutty, spoke.
