Mavelikara, Punnapra North, Aryad declared open defecation-free

Alappuzha to achieve the goal by November 1, says Sudhakaran

Mavelikara Assembly constituency has been declared open defecation-free (ODF). The declaration was made by Minister for Public Works G. Sudhakaran at a meeting convened at Charummood on Friday.

The Minister said Alappuzha would become ODF by November 1. The State had been carrying out the task of constructing 2.5 lakh toilets when the announcement was made earlier on the decision to make the State ODF.

1,540 toilets built

Under the project, 1,540 toilets were constructed in the constituency, consisting of five panchayats of the Bharanikkavu block panchayat and two panchayats of the Mavelikara block panchayat. R. Rajesh, MLA, presided over the meeting.

District panchayat president G. Venugopal felicitated officials and representatives of panchayats who were involved in the successful execution of the project.

Aryad block panchayat and Punnapra North panchayat were declared ODF in separate functions.

Aryad is the third block panchayat to achieve the feat in the district.

District panchayat president G. Venugopal made the declaration at a function held at the block panchayat hall. It was presided over by the president of the local body, Sheena Sanalkumar.

Punnapra North grama panchayat was declared ODF by Ambalappuzha block panchayat president Prajith Karikkad.

The function was presided over by panchayat president Suvarna Pratapan.
