Marketing network for crops soon: Minister

The government is preparing to establish a marketing network for crops produced within the State, Minister for Agriculture K.P. Mohanan has said.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Mohanan said the Budget proposal to set up agricultural markets and farm producers organisations as a consortium of farmers would help to tap Central and State government funds for procurement and marketing of crops, including paddy and vegetables.

Mr. Mohanan said a monthly review would be held to assess the progress of various projects and programmes outlined in the Budget.

The Minister announced various awards instituted by the Department of Agriculture.

The Harithamudra award for the best television programme on agriculture has gone to ‘Mannum Manushyanum’ aired on Jaihind TV. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs.50,000 and a citation.

Kadakarapally Agricultural Officer N.G. Vyas won the award for canvassing the maximum number of subscribers for the magazine ‘Kerala Karshakan.’

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is scheduled to give away the awards at a function here on March 22.
