Marad case: summons to passport officer

The Kozhikode Juvenile Justice Board on Tuesday issued summons to the Regional Passport Officer to seek suggestions from him on bringing back one of the juveniles involved in the Marad massacre case of May 2, 2003, who had fled to the Gulf.

The board, headed by Chief Judicial Magistrate S.H. Panchapakesan, issued summons to the passport officer to appear before it on March 29. One of the five accused in the case fled to the Gulf after securing bail in the case.

The board also issued a directive to summon Kozhikode City Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration) K.R. Jayarajan on March 29 to examine him on the departmental procedures against two policemen attached to the special branch (intelligence wing) who had carried out the passport verification to help the accused flee to the Gulf.

The board, comprising C. Radhakrishnan and K.K. Shiny, also decided to continue the trial in the case from March 29.
