Mar Thoma Sabha of Malabar meet begins today

The three-day meeting of the Mar Thoma Sabha Prathinidhi Mandalam, parliament of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, will be held at Dr Alexander Mar Thoma auditorium in Thiruvalla from Tuesday to Thursday.

In a statement issued here on Monday, the Church secretary, Fr Oommen Philip, said the meet would begin with a prayer and the Mar Thoma Metropolitan, Joseph Mar Thoma, would preside over the inaugural session at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Rev Hielke Wolters, associate general secretary of the World Council of Churches, will deliver the benedictory speech on the occasion.

The Church secretary will present the annual report and Prakash P. Thomas, lay trustee, will present the annual budget, later.

Second day

The second day of the meet will start after the holy eucharist at the St Thomas Mar Thomas Church on the SC Seminary premises on Wednesday morning.

Yuyakim Mar Coorilos Episcopa will be the chief celebrant of the holy eucharist.

The Sabha Prathinidhi Mandalam will honour the priests who have been retired from their ecclesiastical duty, later, in the forenoon.

Manavaseva Award

Mar Thoma Metropolitan will present the Mar Thoma Manavaseva Award instituted by the Church to Dr M. Daniel, missionary doctor in Baroda, at the meet, according to Fr Philip.

The Best Farmer Award of the Church will be presented to P.V. Varghese of Pazhoor in Kozhencherry and the Green Award of the Church to the Jarusalem Mar Thoma Church in Kottayam on the occasion.

The three-day meet will come to a close on Thursday, the Church secretary said.
