Communist Party of India (Marxist) district unit secretary T.P. Ramakrishnan has alleged attempts to misinterpret what party State committee member M.M. Mani said on Wednesday during a speech at Orkatteri in Kozhikode.
“These attempts are part of an ongoing campaign to malign the CPI(M) and Mr. Mani,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said in a statement here.
He said no reference was made by Mr. Mani to the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case in his speech, though a section of media had tried to create such an impression.
“The case is in its trial stage. This is the time for all to patiently wait for the court’s decision.
“The CPI(M) does not want to make any comments on the case at this stage. All who heard Mr. Mani’s speech are convinced he did not make any reference to the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said in his statement.
The CPI(M) district secretary said what Mr. Mani said at Orkatteri was about the attacks on the party and the resistance put up party men against aggressors in the past. It was when a party committee meeting was convened at Onchiyam that the police had launched a manhunt to arrest party men since a ban was in force on the Communist party at that time.
“While party leaders gave the police the slip, local people put up strong resistance against the police attempts to arrest innocent villagers. Many party members were killed in the police firing that followed,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said, pointing out that such incidents of party men resisting attacks were not uncommon.
“The CPI(M) has made it clear that it has no role in the murder of T.P. Chandrasekharan on May 4.
“We stick to that stand. It is as part of a political conspiracy that some party men have been included on the list of the accused in this case,” he said, denying Mr. Mani had said anything about the role of CPI(M) workers in the Chandrasekharan murder case in his speech.
