Putting at rest all speculations, Kerala Congress (M) [KC(M)] chairman K.M. Mani on Sunday closed the door on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as the destination for his party which has been ploughing a lonely furrow after coming out of the United Democratic Front (UDF) last week.
Addressing the State committee meeting of his party on Sunday, Mr. Mani said: “The BJP is not on our agenda. There was no discussion in this regard. The very discussions as where the party is heading breaches political decency and it is clearly aimed at misguiding the public. We are not ‘for’ or against any one. I will call it equal distance. If you want to name it something else we can think of it,” he said.
Stressing the need for providing a new style of functioning for political parties, Mr. Mani said the relationship would be issue-based. The party would not compromise on two issues, he said. “We cannot compromise on secularism and political violence,” he said.
Mr. Mani said the Kerala Congress had shown to the national parties in the State that it had its own political identity and could stand alone.
