Mani alleges collapse of law and order in Kerala

October 15, 2009 03:19 pm | Updated 03:19 pm IST - KOTTAYAM:

Kerala Congress (M) leader K.M. Mani has alleged that the State was witnessing total collapse of law and order situation under the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government. Inaugurating the day long satyagraha by the UDF in the district, Mr. Mani said the situation existing in the State was unprecedented as the anti socials and criminals had taken over the affairs of the State.

The degeneration in the CPI(M) has been admitted by the central leadership of the party itself, he said and pointed out that the directives on corrective measures to be followed by the party members was a clear admission of the degeneration that has set in. According to him, the LDF government was unable to move against the corrupt as their hands too were tainted. Instead of fighting corruption, those in the government were now trying to protect them, he alleged.

The development activities in the State have come to a stand still on account of the internal squabbles within the party and the Left coalition, he said. The claims of the CPI(M) as the protector of religious minorities have been found baseless, he said. The party was trying to destroy all traces of religious belief from the minds of the youngsters and the party cadre.

Delivering his keynote address, the Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran called for the resignation of the Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, who holds the portfolios of Home and Tourism, as he has proved himself to be unfit to hold them. The impartial officers in the police force have been silenced and the “criminals and the under world have been allowed to run a parallel government,” he alleged. The government has failed to ensure protection for the life and property of the common man in the State, he said.

Referring to the Thekkady boat tragedy, Mr. Sudheeran said the details of the corruption behind the procurement of the boat are expected to come out in the coming days. “Mr Balakrishnan has no moral right to continue as Minister for Tourism any more in the light of the unprecedented tragedy,” the Congress leader said.

The Congress leader alleged that barring a faction within the CPI(M), all others, including LDF partners, the Opposition and the people at large, have pointed to the failings of the administration. However, the leaders were not ready to take corrective measures. This totalitarian attitude of the leadership would take the State to total collapse he said. The Congress leader said time has come for all like minded people have to join hands to bring back normality in the State.

Jose K Mani MP, C F Thomas, K C Joseph, Thomas Chazhikkadan, N Jayaraj, P C George (all MLAs0 leaders of UDF coalition partners and others participated in the day long Satyagraha which is being offered as part of the State wide protest by the UDF against price rise and the police-criminal nexus in the State.
