Managements Federation welcomes HC order on medical admission

May 17, 2011 01:26 pm | Updated 01:26 pm IST - KOCHI:

Kerala Christian Professional College Managements Federation has welcomed the Kerala High Court’s decision to give sanction to the prospectus for admission into the MBBS course offered by its four affiliated medical colleges in 2011-12.

Terming the High Court’s interim order, as a 'welcome step', George Paul, co-ordinator of the federation, urged the Admission Supervisory Committee headed by former High Court Judge P. A. Mohammed to act as a facilitator in ensuring the smooth conduct of the admission process rather than being a ‘road block’ to it.

The committee had earlier turned down a clause in the prospectus that applicants seeking admission to the MBBS course should have obtained 50 per cent marks in English language in the qualifying examination. In its order, the committee said that this stipulation was against the provisions of the Kerala Professional Colleges Act and the rules prescribed for admission by the Medical Council of India.

Stating that the managements had faced several hardships owing to the stance taken by the committee on several earlier occasions earlier, Mr. Paul said that it had also created unnecessary blocks in the conduct of the admission process. He said that the federation has agreed to waive the stipulation in the prospectus that candidates should have obtained 50 per cent marks in English language aimed at speeding up the admission process for the new academic year.

Mr. Paul said that the federation will initiate steps to print the prospectus soon before notifying the admission process. The four colleges affiliated to the federation include the Pushpagiri Institute, Thiruvalla; Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur; Amala Institute, Thrissur; and the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College, Kolenchery.
