A 23-year-old youth hacked to death the father of a young woman who rejected his advances, at Mazhukeer, near Chengannur, here on Tuesday. He also stabbed her several times and she is battling for life in a private hospital at Thiruvalla.
The Chengannur police said Rahul of Pennukara committed the murder near the Pravinkoodu junction, between Thiruvalla and Chengannur, on Main Central Road about 6.30 a.m. The father and daughter were on their way to her college on a scooter.
The deceased is said to have recently confronted Rahul for pestering his daughter, an MBA student. She had reportedly rejected Rahul's advances. Enraged by this, the accused, armed with a sword and chilli powder, confronted them.
Local people overpowered Rahul and called the police. He was arrested and a case has been registered, the police said.
