A 66-year-old man was electrocuted while using a metal pole to pluck areca nuts on his farm at Valakam, near Kottarakara, on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Yohannan.

He runs a small shop at Valakam Junction for a living.

The police said that the metal pole he was holding came into contact with a live 11-kV feeder line passing overhead. Though relatives and neighbours immediately rushed him to the Kottarakara taluk hospital, he could not be saved.

The body was handed over to relatives after autopsy.
